OAKWOOD VILLAGE POLICE REPORTS
The records section of the police department is
located at the Oakwood Village Hall. The service counter is located on your
left as you enter through the main entrance. The records section is open eight hours
a day during normal business hours.
Police reports are kept on file in
this facility. Most reports are kept for a minimum of 10 years. The records
section processes requests for reports weekly. It is important to know that if
you need a copy of a report, your request will be processed much more
expediently if you are familiar with some of the procedures involved in
accommodating your request.
What Information Will I Need To
Process My Request ?
To expedite the process of locating your report,
you should know the date, time, and location of the incident. You should also
know the name of the officer that handled the report, and the incident number.
Since our reports are tracked by computer, the incident number is very
important. You may not need all of the above information, however, the more you
have, the faster your request can be processed.
Oakwood Village Police officers
are frequently called to assist other police agencies in bordering
jurisdictions, however, we do only keep records on events that actually occur
within the corporate limits of the Village of Oakwood.
Who Can
Obtain A Copy Of A Police Report ?
The law states that this information is public
information. This generally means that if your name appears in the report, you
or your attorney, insurance agent or any interested party may obtain a copy of
it. It is important to note that the Oakwood Village Police Department may deny access to
the report for several valid reasons, the most common being that the case is
still under investigation or it is in litigation.
