Oakwood Village Police Department
A suburban society and a community free from crime
and disorder will remain a goal that is impossible to achieve. Nevertheless,
consistent with the values of a free society, it is the primary and utmost
objective of the Oakwood Village Police Department to as closely as possible
approach this ideal. The functional goals and objectives of the Oakwood Village Police Department are stated in the following value statements.
We are service oriented. We see our community in a partnership role. Our
citizens are our partners and we place our greatest value on human life and
human dignity being committed to giving first priority to situations that
threaten life. Using force when necessary and treating all persons with courtesy
and respect.
As those who bear the public trust in our service, we are accountable to each
other as well as to the citizens whom we are sworn to serve and who are the
sources of our authority. Therefore, we are committed to communicating openly
and honestly among ourselves and with our community, understanding the
importance of community values and expectations and being responsive to
community concerns, acknowledging our mistakes and being open to constructive
criticism.
As a department dedicated to professional service, we are constantly striving to
work with our community to solve problems with high priority to crime prevention
and community safety. With a great deal of pride in who we are and what we do as
professionals, we are proud of the trust, which the public places in us
individually and as a department.
We constantly strive to improve our department and to make it more effective and
responsive realizing that we are a part of the fast paced ever changing social,
economic and political system, committing ourselves to remain administratively
and organizationally flexible in order to adapt to these changes in contemporary
society.
As those dedicated to public service, we recognize the importance of a
partnership and cooperation both within our own agency as well as with other
departments, agencies and ultimately Oakwood Village itself. We believe that
cooperation and teamwork will enable and enhance our abilities to blend our
skills and styles in order to effectively achieve common goals that will
continue to keep Oakwood Village a safe and desirable community.
